Q. If I tell you that I am quite unable when I wear my glasses for reading

to see anybody as far as the door I can recognize a man but I cannot

recognize who it is, you will accept that statement?

A. I would not accept it, because I was very near to you and you could not

miss seeing me or knowing me.

Q. If I tell you further that I have an extremely bad memory for faces so

unless I meet a person fairly constantly I am quite unable to recognize

that person, would you accept that statement?

A. No, I would not.

Q. You went to a Chinese clerk in the general office?

A. Yes.

Q. Before I pass from that last point. Will you accept my statement that

when I saw you this morning I did not know who you were?

A. I cannot say, how do I know whether you know who I am or not you

said 'good morning' and I replied.

accorded certain privileges and advantages over the other people in

the colony.

A. Not priority but consideration.

A. In this particular case I expected you to take my word as a Consul.
